Ted is my name …. Logic is my game.
Logic has always been a driving force in my life, even before the advent of personal computers changed our lives. I have been around the Internet about as long as the Internet has been around.
My introduction to computers began in 1969 when I was hired to run batch programs on a Honeywell 3000 mainframe for an insurance company.
I first started programming computers in 1985 shortly after the PC was first introduced. As I began learning about the World Wide Web and realized how rapidly it was evolving I could easily visualize an emerging market for entrepreneurs to capitalize on new ways to make money through e-commerce. I learned database programming and later developed some skills in web development.
The early years of browser development also brought a stampede of on-line stores to merchandise everything under the sun. This created a whole new industry requiring web developers, webmasters and marketing majors with a need for a way to promote those enterprises. Thus was born the affiliate program, or in other forms pay per click advertising. Companies offered to pay webdevelopers to host advertisements on their sites in exchange for a percentage payment each time someone clicked on that ad.
Boy did I ever see a potential in this method of making easy money. I quickly jumped on that bandwagon thinking I had finally found my cash cow. I developed websites that did nothing other than have links to categorized advertisers that I had signed up with to receive a royalty when the masses flocked to my site to click through and find the on-line products of their dreams. I was really shocked when I still hadn’t made any money after a year or so.
Totally disheartened through failure I gave up, went to college and got a degree in computer science and drudged along, moving from company to company. When IT job opportunities disappeared due to NAFTA and moved to Mexico I eventually settled into a university IT career until retirement in 2010.
I am now 70+ years old without much to show for 50 years of work, especially after the stock market crash in 2008 that wiped out most of my retirement.
Now it is 2018 and during the past 20 years I watched the Internet get completely reinvented without ever figuring out how to capitalize on it . I decided it was time to re-explore affiliate marketing opportunities. Through my daily distraction from life; ie; Facebook- I began paying attention to sponsored ads for making money on the Internet. As I researched these quote “opportunities” I started realizing the vast number of scams out there and how easy it would be to fall for the hype and lose a lot of money very quickly. One of my close friends was actually trying to get me to sign up with a get-rich-quick scheme just the other day.
That was when I discovered Wealthy Affiliate; a refreshing change from all the easy money promises out there.
With Wealthy Affiliate I can work from home every day or take a day off if I like. The entire goal of this site is to help you do the same (and to avoid the truck loads of scams that you are going to run into).
